What it is
Fluoride is a mineral that helps rebuild and strengthen weakened tooth enamel, making teeth more resistant to the acid that causes cavities. While toothpaste and tap water provide some fluoride, an in-office treatment delivers a much higher concentration directly to the teeth for extra protection, usually applied as a gel, foam, or varnish after a cleaning.
